Age: At the time of entry, Barry is 40 years old. Because of time travel shenanigans, he is technically closer to 140.
Canon: The Adventure Zone: Balance
Canon Point: Mid-episode 66, during the Stolen Century story arc.
Character Information: Here is a link to his Wiki page. Seeing as his canon point is set before the main events of the podcast, approximately 10-15 years prior, most of the History portion is void aside from the first paragraph. That is also why his age in Ryslig is not closer to 50, as stated on the Wiki.

Personality:

"Your name is Barry Bluejeans. You are afraid of the dark. Your very favorite thing in the world is swimming in very cold water on a very hot day. You get ill when you drink milk or anything with milk in it. Your- your father Gregor died when you were too young to know him. Your mother, Marlena, had soft gray hair when you were born, and was the most wonderful woman who ever lived. You remember them but you have forgotten so much. And right now, in this moment, you feel a dull weight in your chest. It’s the weight of a love that defined and redeemed you but you’ve forgotten who that weight belongs to. Barry, I’m you, just moments ago and I remember who that weight belongs to, and I can help you remember it too."

Barry Bluejeans is a lover. He loves learning. He loves sharing. He loves the family he's made for himself, the one he came across by sheer happenstance, the one that welcomed him without judgement. He loves deeply and sincerely, and he will fight and die to protect everything - and everyone - he loves.

Ever since he was a child, raised and encouraged by a mother too old to really keep up with him, he's cultivated a deep love of reading and learning, feeding his endless curiosity about the world around him and what makes it tick without having to leave home. Anything worth knowing, Barry strives to know it. And if it's not in a book, he's just gonna have to get his hands dirty and piece it together on his own. Libraries became a safe-haven for Barry, and would continue to be for decades as he honed his skills, slowly and methodically - ever the scientist. He wouldn't stop until he reached the highest echelon of his field, until he was good enough to apply all of his knowledge, until he could contribute. He found such an opportunity at the IPRE. Handpicked out of hundreds of hopeful, dedicated scientists, Barry was made C.S.O. of the revolutionary mission that would change his life.

One thing he's always had a hard time figuring out and getting right, is interpersonal relationships. Barry doesn't open up easily. At several points during the Stolen Century, Barry is reluctant to interact with strangers if he can help it, instead choosing to stay close to the ship and do his research - unless a trip outside the ship can lead to interesting new discoveries. Years of study and isolation has made Barry cautious of others. Other people didn't understand his curiosity, his thirst for knowledge, and every time he was made fun of and ostracized, the gap between him and them grew. He, in turn, didn't understand how other people could enjoy a world they didn't comprehend as intricately as he did, not to mention how easily and effortlessly they seemed to interact with it. So he stayed out of their way, something the Justices pointed out to him during the 65th cycle. He could interact with strangers just fine, if it happened in short, controlled bursts, but anything approaching emotional intimacy was a far greater challenge.

The IPRE changed that. Spending a century with someone where none of you age, where none of you die (for long), changes your perspective on a lot of things. During the hundred years spent with the Starblaster crew, Barry learns to approach people, learns to ask for help, learns to open up and let others inside. Before long, he starts working tirelessly, sometimes for months without rest, to find a way to stop the Hunger and protect the people who would become his family. At first, he's reluctant to be openly vulnerable, hiding away during a particularly challenging cycle to cry by himself, before Lup finds him. But as time passes, he learns to let the others see him in a more vulnerable state. During cycle 21, Barry confesses to Taako that he never learned how to swim, and asks him to teach him - initially stating it's because he's embarrassed and would like to spend time with the rest of the crew on the beach, when in actuality, he doesn't want to make a fool out of himself in front of Lup.

Barry's relationship with Lup is an integral part of his character. He himself described his love for her as "redeeming" and "defining" him, a love that changed him for the better. He suspects he's falling for her early on, when she finds him crying one year and gently consoles him, but perhaps doesn't really come to terms with it until her own brother points it out to him after one of their swimming lessons:

Taako: Barry, you’re locked in and this wave’s crashin’ all around you, my man and I— I don’t begrudge you… anything. You know, we’ve lost a lot, uh, and there’s a lot more we might lose but the one thing we do have is the thing that people in love rarely ever have enough of, and it’s time.
Barry: Oh, I— I don’t know about… You know, I don’t know about in love. It’s only been tw— Um… Twenty-one years…
Taako: Sure. Sure.
Barry: Sh— Shit.
Taako: Barry, I— You got all the time in the world, my man.

Lup is Barry's partner, his best friend, his professional collaborator. Before they get together, the two of them would spend days, weeks, months working together in the lab onboard the ship, studying the Light, the Hunger, the many worlds they inhabited. This is illustrative not only of his work ethic and professional skills, but also of his burgeoning relationship with Lup, his devotion to her. He could be doing all of this work alone, but he trusts her skills and her judgment, and he wants to spend this time with her. It takes 47 years for the two of them to end up together. During this time, they grow closer, spending hours in the lab, sneaking off to have dinner together, stealing away for private moments. After their duet performance at the Legato Conservatory, when they solidify their relationship, Barry's mood is noticeably elevated, and he remains elated even as the Hunger descends and consumes the plane.

His devotion to Lup is steadfast and unshakable. 35 years after getting together, Lup and Barry prove their trust in and devotion to each other when they both undergo an incredibly dangerous and risky magical procedure, turning themselves into liches. Their love for each other and for their family becomes their emotional anchor, ensuring their sanity remains even in death. When Lup goes missing during the final cycle, Barry doesn't go a day without searching for her, endlessly, tirelessly, applying every single skill he's amassed during his lifetime to find her. Geographical triangulation, field exploration, arcane divination, teaching himself local history, actively seeking out strangers, all to find even a trace of his lost partner. Barry sleeps standing up over homemade maps, immediately going back to work as soon as he's roused. When he realizes his memories are being erased, when he starts forgetting Lup, he doesn't flinch, doesn't hesitate for a second, and immediately starts pleading with Taako, his brother-in-law:

"Taako, k- kill me! Right now! I’ll- I’ll remember if I’m a lich, I can- please, Taako, just kill me! It’ll- I’ll be okay! I can’t forget, I’m, I’m, begging you, please, Taako! Please!"

We see this again when Lup returns in episode 67, a disregard for his physical form when it comes to Lup. As soon as he sees her emerge in her lich form, he says outright he's going to kill himself just so he can be a lich too and embrace her again. Lup easily convinces him not to, and he stays by her side every second after, throwing himself off the side of the moon base in pursuit of her, fighting fiercly by her side. Lup makes him fearless and brave, and instills a confidence in him that was not present at the start of their journey. (Note: This last paragraph and a half, while saying a lot about Barry's personality, occurs after the point in canon where he enters Ryslig.)

Barry is a stubborn man. When he sets his mind to something, he doesn't rest until he's achieved what he's set out to do. Whether it's learning how to swim, accurately pinpointing the wavelengths of the Light, teaching himself a language, or guiding his friends on the right path, Barry doesn't stop until he's mastered it. During the different arcs of The Adventure Zone, when his friends have all forgotten about him, he follows them in his lich form and leaves them hints along the way, trying to guide them to solve the mystery of their stolen time, and even helping them directly. In Wonderland, he's invisible to the main characters, using his necromantic powers to siphon away energy that the artifact of his creation, the Animus Bell, is feeding off of, impeding their progress. He also helps them find a way out of the Wonderland loop with some clumsy transmutation magic. If it means making progress, if it means protecting his family and help them find their way to the truth, Barry will do anything.

Barry is a nervous man, prone to emotional breakdowns, and a total coward. If any situation has the potential to be dangerous, Barry will opt to stay out of it or flee, unless backed by someone he knows is more powerful. His bravery, his need to protect those he loves from harm, is almost entirely dependent on other, stronger people. All his time spent working and studying has made him distance himself from others, and he's at times incredibly envious of anyone who can effortlessly interact with the world and with others - something he has great trouble with, illustrated by how it took him half a century to feel comfortable being emotionally transparent with the crew. When challenged on his jealousy by the Justices during their judgement hearing in cycle 65, Barry flat-out denied any wrong-doing:

Justice: Barry Bluejeans. You’ve spent your whole life locked in libraries and studies, learning about the world around you without ever entering it. You’re filled with jealousy of those who do. Your past sins are sloth and envy. How do you plead?
Barry: Not... guilty? I’m a pretty good… dude; I’m just, I’m doin' my best out here--

Whether consciously or not, Barry often doesn't make an effort to involve himself with the dealings of others. His stubborn nature also makes it hard for him to see and admit to his own faults, instead believing it's the rest of the world there's something wrong with.

👖 First Impressions

※ VISUAL: Barry is initially, perhaps jokingly, described as looking "kinda like Tom Arnold". He's a white human cis-male closing in on 50 years old, with pale skin, heavy dark eyes, a prominent nose, and short receding brown hair sprinkled with gray at the temples. He's a solid man with a broad, round build, a little shorter (5'7'') than your average dude, and significantly heavier. His eyesight is terrible, so he's always wearing glasses, usually rectangular with a prominent dark frame, and thick lenses. His time working as a bodyguard in western Faerûn has left him with several scars, mostly covered by clothing and coarse body hair, although if you study his face closely, you can tell his nose has been broken and set by hand at least once. He tries to keep himself clean and tidy, so his hair is usually kept neat and trimmed short, and his face is always clean-shaven - although if he's working on a project, he'll just straight up forget. His face will be scruffy with the beginnings of a dark beard, and his hair will be significantly puffed from continually running his hands through it.
※ FASHION: Y'all ever heard of raw denim? Trust me, it's great. True to his name, Barry's signature fashion piece is a pair of sturdy blue denim pants. If you get him talking about them, he's got tips and tricks for fit, styling, and denim care for days. He prefers unwashed, faded denim, a straight- to relaxed bootcut fit and, if at all possible, selvage. What more could a man need than a pair of trusty jeans, anyway? He pairs his eponymous jeans with a variety of white cotton shirts, heavy leather boots, and studded belts. Draped over his shoulders and fastened with buckles is a heavy red cloak of durable wool, which at this point is so old and tattered it's fraying at the hems. There used to be a patch on the left breast of his cloak, but all that remains of the patch now is the stitching.
※ DEMEANOUR: Years spent bent over books and desks has given Barry an awful slouching habit, which he's actively trying to kick. His default expression is a neutral, contemplative one, but he's quick to smile with company, and even if you're a stranger, he's friendly and affable in conversation. Not a man to gesture loudly, he usually just fidgets with his hands, picking at his nails or at loose threads in his clothing.
※ SOUND: Barry speaks Common, the D&D lingua franca. If you speak English, you'll understand him perfectly. His voice is deep and pretty gruff, he often uses contractions and shortened forms, he's careful not to use gross pet names, and his words are tinged with a very slight New Jersey accent (how that translates to D&D geolects is knowledge lost to time). Examples (contain spoilers): 1, 2.
※ SCENT: Barry is allergic to some chemicals found in perfumes, so he stays away from those. He usually smells like soap, cotton, and coffee.
※ MENTAL INFORMATION: Barry doesn't have any mental wards up, but he is familiar and well-versed with spells that manipulate the mind, from Command to Confusion to Hold Person. It wouldn't take much to alert him to someone poking around up there. However, he has no safeguards to expel you from his thoughts, should he fail to save.
※ MAGICAL INFORMATION: While not an inherently magical creature, Barry is a powerful magic user. He carries with him an old oak wand, which is his arcane focus that allows him to cast spells. He's also in possession of a coin that emits an aura of Enchantment magic.
